Laser Pointer Dimensions and Weight: What to Compare

When comparing laser pointer size and weight, check that the figures describe the same thing. A pointer by itself, a pointer with its battery and an entire charging kit are different comparisons. Start with the items you need to carry and the space available.

Compare the pointer, not the package

Look for the device’s length and outside diameter. For a non-round housing, check length, width and thickness. Check whether those measurements include the cap, clip or another protruding part. For a storage compartment, compare its usable internal space with the pointer itself; the shipping box’s dimensions answer a different question.

Compare the actual device measurements with the space available. A product photograph can show the shape but does not establish dimensions when it has no reliable scale.

The housing’s outside diameter is separate from the beam diameter. Our beam-diameter guide explains the optical measurement. If your reason for checking body diameter is a holder, use the tripod-mount guide to check that connection separately.

Put the measurements in the same units

NIST defines one inch as exactly 25.4 millimeters. To compare a length in millimeters with one in inches, divide the millimeter value by 25.4. As a hypothetical example, 100 mm is about 3.94 inches. That is a conversion example, not a specification for a Light Tracer pointer.

Keep the precision of the original listing in mind. Converting a rounded number into several decimal places does not make it a more precise measurement. If a close fit matters, ask for the dimensions and tolerances that apply to the exact model and configuration.

Check what the weight includes

An explicit battery statement makes the figure more useful. For example, Hotech’s Astro Presenter HTGL-AP page lists a weight of 2.3 ounces with the battery. Using NIST’s approximate conversion of 28.35 grams per ounce, that is about 65 grams. It describes that manufacturer’s model, not our pointer or an independent test.

Compare that kind of figure with another device’s weight including its battery. If you will carry the whole kit, check the combined weight of the pointer, charger, case and other accessories separately. Weight alone does not establish comfortable handling, durability or laser performance.

Make a short comparison before ordering

For each exact model, record:

  • Device dimensions, units and any included cap or protruding parts.
  • Device weight and whether the battery is included.
  • Kit contents and total kit weight if those items will travel with you.
  • Any missing measurements that prevent checking the fit you need.

The current Light Tracer listing identifies MinimaUrb LBP-GLP-532 and lists a rechargeable battery, USB charging dock, detachable kaleidoscope cap and protective case. The homepage reviewed for this guide does not provide numeric device dimensions or weight; it does not establish the pointer’s fit or weight for this comparison. Use the published kit details and our packing guide to separate what is included from the measurements you still need before ordering.
